| Marin for cat is a unique formulation of silybin, vitamin E, and zinc helps support liver function. The silybin in Marin is complexed with phosphatidylcholine to increase bioavailability, providing benefits such as: decreased cellular oxidization; increased hepatic protein synthesis; and decreased inflammatory mediator elaboration. .
Vitamin E, a membrane associated anti-oxidant, is widely recommended for use as an adjunct for liver support. Zinc has been shown to support liver function through its anti-oxidant effects as well as having anti-fibrotic properties. There are no known drug interactions or contraindications to the use of silymarin/silybin in animals.
While mild side effects, such as gastrointestinal upset, itching, and headache, have been rarely reported in primates, no side effects have been noted in Cats.
The specific silybin-phosphatidylcholine complex in Marin for cat has been evaluated in both acute and chronic use safety studies: an acute toxicity study in Cats using levels greater than 80x the amount in Marin revealed no adverse physiologic effects. Vitamin E is also well-tolerated in recommended amounts. Zinc is generally well-tolerated when administered in recommended amounts. Occasionally, vomiting or lack of appetite may be noted.
