Indications: FOAL-LAC® milk replacer is a nutritionally complete powder that is reconstituted with water for feeding to orphaned or early weaned foals. Formulated specifically for foals, FOAL-LAC® simulates the nutritional composition of mare's milk. FOAL-LAC® Powder may be used in young orphaned foals, foals weaned prior to two months of age, foals nursing dams with an inadequate milk supply, and for mixing into the foals first feed to enhance palatability.

Dosage and Administration: Mix one (1) cup (8 oz. cup enclosed) of FOAL-LAC® Powder with three (3) cups of warm water. This yields approximately one and one-half (1 1/2) pints of milk replacer.

Orphaned Foals:

1. The foal should receive colostrum during the first 24 hours after foaling. A physical examination of the foal by a veterinarian is recommended at this time.

2. Administer Bene-Bac™ Lactobacillus paste between 12 and 24 hours of age and on days 4 and 7.

3. The following schedule for feeding FOAL-LAC® milk replacer is a guideline for foals that will mature to about 1,100 lbs. of body weight. Since each foal is an individual, more or less milk replacer can be fed, depending upon appetite. Pony foals should be fed about half these quantities. Draft breed foals will require up to twice these quantities.

Change to a 14% protein weanling ration of grain and hay/pasture. If extra condition is required, supplement with 1 to 3 cups of Foal-Lac® Pellets daily.

5. Reconstituted FOAL-LAC® Powder can be fed in an open bucket. Any milk left by the foal after three (3) hours should be discarded. Always wash the feeding utensils with hot, soapy water and rinse well after each feeding.

6. Good quality tender, hay, salt, and water should be provided free choice starting at 10 days of age.

7. The foal should receive exercise each day to stimulate appetite and to develop bone and muscle.

8. Consult a veterinarian for parasite control, necessary immunizations and signs of illness.

Early Weaned and Nursing Foals: Early weaned foals can be placed on the orphan foal feeding schedule. The age of the foal will determine the place to start in the feeding schedule. Nursing foals receiving an inadequate amount of milk from the mare can be placed on the orphan foal schedule. Start with half the amount of FOAL-LAC® recommended for orphans, then adjust up or down according to the foal's appetite.

Precaution(s): Store in a cool, dry place.
