Clinical Considerations
The role of dietary management in canine food allergy is to provide a proper balance of total nutrients while meeting the special dietary needs of the patient. Nutritional management of food hypersensitivity involves the identification and avoidance of the offending antigenic proteins. Providing a diet with a limited number of novel protein ingredients may be helpful in the management of dogs with allergies to more common proteins.
