Tips for using HEARTGARD Plus Chewables for Dogs

Remember to not only eliminate fleas from your dog, but to treat other animals in the house as well as treat areas such as carpets and yards for flea infestations.
It's advised to not feed your dog rodents or uncooked meat or fish.
To prevent reinfection, daily cleanup of stools is recommended.

The majority of dogs enjoy the tasty Heartgard Plus chew and will take it readily like a treat. The chewable should be given in a way that encourages your dog to chew and not swallow it whole. If your dog tends to swallow their treats without chewing, you can break the chewable up into pieces. Carefully monitor your dog to make sure they get the entire dose and observe them for a few more minutes to make sure they do not drop or spit out any part of it. If your dog does not eat the entire chew, administer another full does as soon as you can.

If your dog misses a dose and more than 30 days have passed since their last dose, give Heartgard Plus as soon as possible and restart the monthly dosing schedule from that date. Let your veterinarian know that your dog missed a dose.

Overview

Remove only one chewable at a time from the foil-backed blister card. Return the card with the remaining chewables to its box to protect the product from light. Because most dogs find     HEARTGARD® Plus (ivermectin/pyrantel) palatable, the product can be offered to the dog by hand. Alternatively, it may be added intact to a small amount of dog food. The chewable should be administered in a manner that encourages the dog to chew, rather than to swallow without chewing. Chewables may be broken into pieces and fed to dogs that normally swallow treats whole. Care should be taken that the dog consumes the complete dose and treated animals should be observed for a few minutes after administration to ensure that part of the dose is not lost or rejected. If it is suspected that any of the dose has been lost, redosing is recommended.
