Lactated Ringers Solution corrects:
  • Dehydration
  • Depletion of electrolytes
  • Metabolic acidosis

Adverse reactions are uncommon when properly dosed.

Infections or abscessed at the injection site could occur if care is not taken to ensure proper technique and steriilty of the needle.

If your pet does have an allergic reaction, symptoms could include:
  • Hives
  • Facial swelling
  • Sudden diarrhea onset
  • Scratching
  • Shock
  • Vomiting
  • Pale gums
  • Cold limbs
  • Seizures
  • Coma
If your pet exhibits any of these reactions, you should notify your veterinarian.

Tips for using Lactated Ringers Solution
Warm solution to body temperature before administering. Inject slowly.
Overview
Dosage: 2 to 5 mL per pound of body weight depending on size and condition of animal

Frequency: 1 to 3 times daily as needed
 
May be injected intravenously, subcutaneously or intraperitoneally (except in horses) using strict aseptic technique.
