Bovi-Shield Gold FP 5+L5 uses
Bovi-Shield Gold FP5 L5 protects pregnant cows and fetuses for a period of a year from abortion associated with infectious bovine rhinotracheitis.
What does Bovi-Shield Gold FP 5+L5 do?
This vaccine uses modified liver virus and bacterin to prevent:
  • Leptospirosis associated with Leptospira pomona, Leptospira icterohaemorrhagiae, Leptospira hardjo, Leptospira grippotyphosa, and Leptospira canicola
  • Testicular infection associated with bovine virus diarrhea (BVD) type 2
  • Respiratory illness associated with infectious bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR), bovine respiratory syncytial virus (BRSV), parainfluenza3 (PI3), and bovine virus diarrhea (BVD) types 1 and 2
  • Fetal infection associated with bovine virus diarrhea (BVD) types 1 and 2
  • Abortion associated with infectious bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR
  • Persistently infected calves associated with bovine virus diarrhea (BVD) types 1 and 2

It is possible for anaphylaxis to occur after vaccination. In this event, epinephrine and appropriate supportive therapy should be administered.

What to know before using Bovi-Shield Gold FP 5+L5
  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • Full contents should be used after opening.
  • Use a sterilize syringe and needle to administer this vaccine, and never sterilize using chemicals. Traces of disinfectant can deactivate the vaccine.
  • Only vaccinate a healthy animal.
  • If human exposure occurs, seek medical attention.
  • Never mix with any product not expressly suggested on product label.
  • This vaccine contains preservatives of thimerosal and gentamicin.
  • Never vaccinate within 21 days of slaughter.
  • Abortions can occur if used in pregnant animals unless vaccinated following label instructions with a Bovi-Shield Gold FP or PregGuard Gold FP vaccine in the past year.
  • Do not administer to calves nursing pregnant cows unless dams have been vaccinated as described above.

Tips for using Bovi-Shield Gold FP 5+L5
It is recommended to employ good animal husbandry and herd health management practices.
Overview
General Directions: Vaccination of healthy cattle is recommended. Aseptically rehydrate the freeze-dried vaccine (Bovi-Shield GOLD FP 5) with the liquid bacterin provided (Vibrio/Leptoferm-5™), shake well, and administer 2 mL intramuscularly. In accordance with Beef Quality Assurance guidelines, this product should be administered in the muscular region of the neck.
 
Primary Vaccination: Administer a single 2-mL dose to all breeding cows and heifers approximately 1 month prior to breeding or being added to the herd, followed by single doses of Vibrio/Leptoferm-5 and Bovi-Shield BRSV 3-4 weeks later.
