Tips for using Slentrol Oral Solution
Obesity requires serious treatment. While exercise and diet remain important, they are not always enough. The need for a proven and dependable medication that can help veterinarians manage obesity safely and effectively has long been evident. Treatment with SLENTROL provides steady, sustained weight loss over time, during which owners can develop new and fundamentally better feeding behaviors and exercise regimens for their dogs. Because Slentrol induces weight loss and helps with weight management, your dog will be less at risk for diseases like arthritis and heart disease that are associated with obesity.
Overview

SLENTROL is an oral solution administered once daily with an easy-to-use calibrated oral dosing syringe. SLENTROL can be given directly into the dog’s mouth, on a treat, or with a small amount of food. SLENTROL is not a cure for obesity, but as part of an overall weight-management program that includes appropriate diet and exercise, the medication can help obese dogs benefit from weight loss. And that can make a difference for pets and their owners.

Slentrol may be given directly into the dog's mouth or on a small amount of food. The dose of Slentrol must be specifically calculated each month by your veterinarian based on the amount of weight the dog lost during the previous month.
The dose should not exceed a maximum daily dose of 0.2 mL/kg (0.09 mL/lb), based on the dog’s current body weight, during any part of treatment.

SLENTROL should not be used in cats, dogs receiving long-term corticosteroid therapy, or in dogs with liver disease. The most common side effect is vomiting. In addition, dogs may experience diarrhea, lethargy, or anorexia. The client should be made aware that if any of these signs persist for more than 2 days the dog should be re-evaluated. SLENTROL is not for use in humans under any circumstances.

Dog Obesity

Dog obesity is a disease which is defined by excess of body fat. This may be caused by a high in calorie diet. We may tend to over feed our dogs simply because they seem so cute asking for an extra treat however over feeding your pet may cause your dog to suffer from obesity. Obesity may cause a number of disadvantages to your pet’s health such as diabetes mellitus,
hypertension, orthopedic injuries, osteoarthritis, respiratory disorders and different forms of cancer.

There are other factors that may cause your dog to be overweight. Hypothyroidism or Cushing’s syndrome among many other hormonal disorders plays a big role in overweight dogs. It is very important to know the cause of your dog’s weight gain. Fortunately there are medications to help manage and control your dog’s excess weight.

Slentrol is normally prescribed for the management of obesity. This medication helps prevent some of the fat consumed by your dog from being absorbed into the body. When your dog is consuming a lot of fat the medication sends a message to the dog’s brain making him feel full. Therefore the dog is losing weight because he is eating less.

Obesity in dogs is a serious medical condition with serious health consequences. Managing your dogs obesity can help prevent health omplications and improve your dog’s quality of life.
