What is Ketofen?
Ketoprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) and cyclo-oxygenase inhibitor used to treat mild to moderate pain, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and pain associated with musculoskeletal disorders in the horses.
It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.It is a potent analgesic, antipyretic and anti-inflammatory. Ketoprofen is most-commonly prescribed for musculoskeletal pain from soft-tissue injury, osteoarthritis or other bone and joint problems. It may be used to reduce or control fevers due to viral or bacterial infections.

Ketofen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory analgesic indicated for horses for the alleviation of inflammation, lameness and pain due to osteoarthritis, hip dysplasia, disc disease, spondylosis, panosteitis, trauma, and related musculoskeletal diseases; for the management of post-surgical pain; for the symptomatic treatment of fever. When inflammation and/or fever are associated with a primary infectious process, nvKetoprofen should be used in conjunction with appropriate anti-infective therapy.
How it works?
NSAIDs work by inhibiting the body's production of prostaglandins, thromboxane and other inflammatory mediators. Some of these actions are dose-dependent. Ketoprofen may be given by injection or orally. Following oral administration, pain relief and fever reduction usually start within one to two hours.

The recommended dosage is 1 mg/lb (1 mL/100 lbs) of body weight once daily. Treatment is administered by intravenous injection and may be repeated for up to five days. Onset of activity is within two hours with peak response by 12 hours.
Ketoprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent of the propionic acid class that includes ibuprofen, naproxen and fenoprofen.
Each mL of KETOFEN (ketoprofen) contains 100 mg of ketoprofen in an aqueous formulation containing: L-Arginine, 70 mg; citric acid (to adjust pH); benzyl alcohol, 0.025 g (as preservative). It is packaged in a multiple dose bottle.
