What does Lactulose Solution USP 10 g/15 mL, Pint (473 mL) do?
Lactulose is a synthetic sugar syrup containing galactose and fructose. These sugars pass effectively through the pet's digestive tract and are not absorbed. Instead, bacteria break these sugars down, which results in a more acidic environment within the intestines. Acids work to pull water into the pet's colon, which softens the stool. These acids are also effective at converting ammonia within the colon to ammonium. This ammonium is finally passed through the animal's stool.
