Is Lactated Ringer's virtually the same thing as Sodium Chloride 0.9% ?2 Answers

My vet at first gave me a fluid bag labeled "LACTATED RINGER'S" but when I went to pick up more, they gave me a bag labeled "0.9% Sodium Chloride". The vet's office told me they are the same thing and that it is fine to use either one. Is that true ???

Answer:
If using for subcutaneous (under the skin) fluid delivery at home, only Lactated Ringers contain a buffer - sodium chloride, Norm-R, etc do not and therefore can sting when administered under the skin. Please let your vet know this - a lot of them are unaware..
