Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) is the most frequently reported adverse reaction to insulin. This can be serious and life-threatening. It could damage your brain or heart. Symptoms of severe low blood sugar could include:
- Blurred vision
- Rapid heartbeat
- Sweating
- Shaking
- Weight gain
- Edema (swelling)
- Rash
- Pruritus (itching)
- Lipodystrophy
- Reactions at the injection site
- Allergic reactions

What to know before using VetPen Starter Kit
- Systemic or local allergic reaction could occur in sensitized individuals due to product exposure.
- Seek immediate medical attention in the case of accidental injection. This could result in clinical hypoglycemia.
- Flush eyes immediately with copious amounts of water for no less than 15 minutes of contact in the case of contact with the eyes. Take care to avoid contact with the eyes.
- Effectiveness and safety have not been evaluated in lactating, pregnant, or breeding cats and dogs, or in kittens and puppies, has not been proven.
- Overdose can lead to profound hypoglycemia or death.
- With this and all other insulin products, the patient should be carefully monitored for hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia. This is fundamental in maintaining and achieving proper glycemic control and preventing associated complications.
- Do not use during hypoglycemic periods.
- Do not administer to cats or dogs with known systemic pork or pork product allergies.
- Keep out of reach of animals and children.
