What is Metoclopramide Tablet?
Metoclopramide tablets are prescribed by veterinarians for a wide variety of gastric-motility disorders, including ileus and gastritis in dogs & cats. Many upper GI-emptying disorders are accompanied with nausea and vomiting due to abnormal gastric emptying. Metoclopramide is prescribed because of its effects on motility and its function as a central antiemetic. It is also used to control nausea and vomiting in cases of renal failure, acute hepatic failure and hepatitis, and in animals undergoing chemotherapy.

Metoclopramide Tablet uses
Features of Metoclopramide:
  • Reduces gastroesophageal reflux by increasing sphincter pressure in the lower part of the esophagus, which can also help to decrease vomiting
  • Speeds up gastric emptying
  • Stimulates mobility of the upper gastrointestinal tract
  • Treats gastrointestinal atony (ileus)
  • Helps treat gastric disorders
What does Metoclopramide Tablet do?
Metoclopramide works by stimulating the motility of the upper gastrointestinal tract without the stimulation of pancreatic, biliary, or gastric secretions. While the mode of action is unclear, it is thought to sensitize tissue to acetylcholine action. Metoclopramide's effect on motility does not depend on intact vagal innervation, but can be abolished using anticholinergic medications.
