Product Overview

Product Description

Baytril (Enrofloxacin) Tablets are antibiotics that treat a variety of bacteria-susceptible infections.
*Sold per tablet.

What is Baytril Tablet?

Baytril is an antibiotic used for infections of the urinary tract, skin, prostate, GI tract, liver, and lungs.

Who is Baytril Tablet for?

For use in cats and dogs.

Why use Baytril Tablet?

Baytril is a treatment for infections that comes in an easy-to-administer chewable tablet.

How does Baytril Tablet work?

Fluoroquinolones like Baytril interfere with the metabolism of bacterial DNA, killing the bacteria.

Manufacturer:

Bayer Animal Health

Active ingredient(s):

Enrofloxacin

How is Baytril Tablet sold?

Sold by the tablet in 22.7 mg, 68 mg, or 136 mg strengths.

What are the side effects of Baytril Tablet?

  • When overdosed (10 times recommended dosage), diarrhea and vomiting could occur. This effect is unlikely at recommended dosage.
  • Dogs who have pseudomonas ear infections require extremely high doses. In these cases, nausea could become an issue.
  • Joint cartilage damage could occur in immature dogs (under the age of 8 months). This is only experienced by growing dogs and is not an issue in cats. It is not recommended to use this medication in puppies unless the severity of the infection warrants it.
  • This medication could produce urine crystals, which could show up on a lab test. Therefore, it is important to be aware of the potential for this reaction. Crystals caused by this medication should not be confused with more clinically relevant urate, oxalate, or struvite crystals.

What special precautions are there?

This medication (and other fluoroquinolones) could cause cartilage lesions in weight-bearing joints. It should not be used in puppies under 6 weeks old because it could affect growing joints.

What to do if overdose?

Contact your closest animal hospital.

How can I store Baytril Tablet?

Store in a dry and cool environment.

Helpful Tips:

Veterinarians may prescribe Baytril for your exotic animal. However, never administer this medication to an animal for which it was not prescribed.
