Norvasc (Amlodipine) is a medication that works to block calcium channels. Calcium caused blood vessels to contract. Amlodipine widens and relaxes the blood vessels with its calcium-blocking capabilities. This medication is useful in treating chest pain (angina) and high blood pressure.

What are the side effects of Norvasc?

While infrequently reported, some adverse reactions may occur in cats, including:
  • Weight loss
  • Increased heart rate
  • Lethargy
  • Drop in levels of blood potassium
  • Elevated renal blood parameters
8.5% of dogs may experience a condition called gingival hyperplasia. This is a problem where the gums overgrow and create additional space for periodontal infection and bacteria. When this occurs, this condition has been shown to resolve within 6 months of stopping this medication.

  • If accidentally taken by a human, seek immediate medical attention.
  • Keep out of reach of pets and children.
