-Can help to control seizures alone or in conjunction with other therapies. -Seizures may be controlled when this medication is given only once daily in cats. -Minimal side effects in comparison to other seizure medications.

How does Zonisamide 100 mg Capsule work?

The exact mechanism of action is unknown but Zonisamide supposedly blocks sodium channels in the brain which decreases activity of nerve cells so they do not fire abnormally. Zonisamide may also alter calcium levels in the brain.

What are the side effects of Zonisamide 100 mg Capsule?

Most common side effects include : Loss of appetite, weight loss and nausea.

What special precautions are there?

Do not give Zonisamide to pets who are allergic to similar medications or to sulfonamides. If your pet has liver or kidney disease, use Zonisamide with caution only as directed by your veterinarian and only if the benefits outweigh the risks. This medication cannot be used in pregnant females because birth defects can occur in fetuses that are exposed to Zonisamide.

Zonisamide should be stored at room temperature out of reach from children, pets, and light.

Helpful Tips:

Zonisamide should be given exactly according to your veterinarian’s instructions. Make sure your pet has water available at all times while taking this medication. Zonisamide can be given with or without food. Capsule cannot be broken. Always give them whole. If you are unsure of how to use this medication correctly, always call your veterinarian.
