  • Hypotension
  • Tachypnea
  • Tense muscles
  • Excitation
  • Apnea
  • Muscle fasciculations
  • Emesis
  • Paddling
  • Retching
  • Salivation
  • Cyanosis
  • Premature ventricular contractions
  • Excessive cardiopulmonary depression
  • Transient elevation in liver function tests
  • Transient elevations in white blood cell count

What special precautions are there?

  • Sevoflurane is a respiratory depressant. Because of the rapid, dose-dependent changes in depth of anesthesia, respiration must be closely monitored in the dog and supported with oxygen or ventilation as needed.
  • Discontinue administration in cases of severe cardiopulmonary depression. Ensure that the patient's airway is open and initiatie controlled or assisted ventilation with oxygen. Cardiovascular depression should be treated with antiarrhythmic agents, pressors, plasma expanders, or other techniques as indicated.
  • Due to this drug's low blood solubility, increasing concentration could result in rapid anesthetic depth changes and hemodynamic changes compared to other types of volatile anesthetic. Excessive decreases in blood pressure or respiratory depression can be corrected by discontinuing or decreasing the concentration of sevoflurane.
  • It is not recommended to use potassium hydroxide with CO2 absorbents with this drug.

Sevoflurane is a stable, colorless, and clear liquid with no chemical stabilizers or additives. It is non pungent. It is miscible with ether, chloroform, ethanol, and petroleum benzene, and slightly water-soluble.
