Product Description

Sentinel Spectrum is indicated for use in dogs and puppies, four weeks of age and older, and two pounds body weight or greater. SENTINEL for dogs is used for the prevention of heartworm disease and for the prevention and control of flea populations, the control of adult  hookworm, and the removal and control of adult roundworm and whipworm infections. See Allivet's Flea and Tick chart to find which flea and tick product is best for your pet.

What is Sentinel Spectrum?

Sentinel Spectrum sterilizes adult fleas and protects your dogs and puppies against parasites such as heartworm, hookworms, tape worms and removes and controls adult roundworm and whip worm infections in dogs and puppies. Sentinel Spectrum Tasty Chews are beef-flavored, and studies have shown they are so palatable that 97% of dogs accept them straight from the hand.

Who is Sentinel Spectrum for?

Why use Sentinel Spectrum?

- Sentinel Spectrum prevents heartworm disease - Sentinel Spectrum prevents and controls flea infestations in dogs - Sentinel Spectrum treats and controls tapeworm unlike Sentinel Flavor Tabs - Sentinel Spectrum treats and controls whipworms, roundworms & hookworms

How does Sentinel Spectrum work?

Milbemycin oxime, one active ingredient in SENTINEL SPECTRUM, is a macrocyclic anthelmintic which is believed to act by interfering with invertebrate neurotransmission. Milbemycin oxime eliminates the tissue stage of heartworm larvae and the adult stage of hookworm (Ancylostoma caninum), roundworm (Toxocara canis and Toxascaris leonina) and whipworm (Trichuris vulpis) infestations when administered orally according to the recommended dosage schedule. Lufenuron controls flea populations by preventing the development of flea eggs and does not kill adult fleas. Concurrent use of an adulticide product may be necessary for adequate control of adult fleas.

Active ingredient(s):

Milbemycin oxime, Lufenuron & Praziquantel

How is Sentinel Spectrum sold?

Sentinel Spectrum are sold in 6 month (6 chews) or 12 month (12 chews) supplies depending on your dogs weight as follows : 2-8 lbs (Orange), 8.1-25 lbs (Green), 25.1-50 lbs (Yellow), or 50.1-100 lbs (Blue)

What are the side effects of Sentinel Spectrum?

The following adverse reactions have been reported in dogs after giving SENTINEL Flavor Tabs: vomiting, depression/lethargy, pruritus, urticaria, diarrhea, anorexia, skin congestion, ataxia, convulsions, hypersalivation and weakness.

What special precautions are there?

The safety of the concurrent use of SENTINEL Flavor Tabs and CAPSTAR Tablets in pregnant or nursing dogs or in puppies less than 11 weeks of age has not been demonstrated. If an animal with adult heartworm infection (and therefore circulating microfilariae) is given Sentinel Spectrum, a transient shock-like reaction can occur. To avoid this, dogs should be tested for adult heartworm and treated if necessary, before starting Sentinel Spectrum.

What to do if overdose?

Store in a dry place at controlled room temperature, between 59° and 77°F (15-25°C).

Helpful Tips:

SENTINEL SPECTRUM is different from SENTINEL FLAVOR TABS because it also treats tape worms in dogs. SENTINEL Spectrum may be used concurrently with CAPSTAR® (nitenpyram) Tablets to provide a Flea Management System that kills adult fleas and prevents flea eggs from hatching. Please see the Supplemental Package Insert provided with this product for information about concurrent use of the two products.

Pharmacists are standing by to offer Pet Parent counseling regarding prescription medication purchased from Allivet before and after dispensing. Pharmacists on duty are available Monday-Friday, 9:30AM - 5:30PM EST and will be on call Saturday 12:00PM - 4:00PM EST for consultation.

Please read the insert contained in each package for complete information on the individual products prior to dispensing or dosing. The effects of SENTINEL SPECTRUM on heartworm disease and internal parasites are not described in this supplement.

Step 1: Control

Give SENTINEL SPECTRUM once per month to prevent and control flea populations. SENTINEL SPECTRUM contains lufenuron. Lufenuron controls flea populations by preventing the development of flea eggs and does not kill adult fleas. If a dog currently has a flea infestation, more rapid relief can be accomplished by adding CAPSTAR to the treatment as follows.

Step 2: Kill Adult Fleas

If your pet currently has a flea infestation, use CAPSTAR Tablets to kill adult fleas. CAPSTAR Tablets contain nitenpyram and are effective for the treatment of flea infestations. Nitenpyram starts killing adult fleas within 30 minutes of administration.

- Administer CAPSTAR Tablets once per week until adult fleas are no longer observed.

- For a severe flea infestation, administer CAPSTAR Tablets twice per week until adult fleas are no longer observed.

- Additional CAPSTAR Tablets may be administered as needed to kill the occasional adult flea picked up from infested environments.

- It is important to treat all cats and dogs in the household. All cats should be treated with approved products like lufenuron in combination with nitenpyram as needed. Fleas can reproduce on untreated pets and allow infestations to persist.

The combination of SENTINEL SPECTRUM and CAPSTAR Tablets should be administered according to the following schedule. Weigh your dog prior to administration to ensure proper dosage. Do not administer to dogs under 2 pounds.

97% of dogs will take the tasty chews straight from the hand. Otherwise, the dose can be added to a small meal or placed directly in the mouth, similar to tablet dosing.
