Dopram Injection (doxapram hydrochloride, USP) is a strong stimulant for the respiratory system. It is uniquely effective at stimulating respiration at considerably lower dosages than those required to induce stimulation of the cerebral cortex.

What is Dopram Injection 20ml?

Dopram ( Doxapram ) stimulates respiration and may be used to start or stimulate respiration in newborn puppies and kittens following a difficult birth or a C-section. It may also be used during or after surgery, or to diagnose laryngeal paralysis. It is not a substitute for proper artificial respiratory support (mechanical ventilation).

How does Dopram Injection 20ml work?

Dopram hydrochloride generates respiratory stimulation mediated through the peripheral carotid chemoreceptors. The central respiratory centers of the medulla are stimulated with continuous stimulation of other areas of the spinal cord and brain as the dosage level increases.

Speak with your veterinarian prior to using doxapram in conjunction with any of the following, as interactions could occur:
  • Epinephrine (or other agents that could stimulate the sympathetic nervous system)
  • Within ten minutes of stopping anesthesia with enflurane, halothane, or other anesthetics
  • Muscle relaxants
  • Supplements
  • Vitamins

Contact your nearest animal hospital.

How can I store Dopram Injection 20ml?

Don't freeze. Store in a childproof container that seals properly and is light resistant. Store at room temperature.

Helpful Tips:

Doxapram should only be administered to the pet it was prescribed for. If a dose is missed, administer it when you remember. If the next dose should be administered soon, skip the missed dose and continue with the regular schedule. Never administer two doses at one time.

Doxapram may be given as drops under the tongue or by injection.
The effect is usually seen within 2 minutes of giving the drug.
If you miss a dose, give it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the one you missed and go back to the regular schedule. Do not give two doses at once.
