What are the side effects of Covetrus Equine Ivermectin 1.87% Paste?

In horses with neck threadworm (Onchocerca sp) microfilariae or heavy infection, there have been reports of itching and swelling reactions after using Parid EQ™ (ivermectin) Paste. This is likely due to the large number of microfilariae dying. It could be advisable to use symptomatic treatment. When using this product to heal summer sores that have tissue damage that is extensive, you may need to use in conjunction with other treatments. Consider the possibility of reinfection and how to prevent it.

If your horse experiences a reaction of this kind or if your horse’s condition worsens, contact a veterinarian.

What special precautions are there?

  • Never use this product on any other animals, as it could lead to severe adverse reaction.
  • It may result in dog fatalities.
  • When handling this product, refrain from eating or smoking.
  • To dispose of syringes, incinerate or dispose of in approved landfill.
  • Never contaminate surface or ground water with this product.
  • Aquatic organisms may be adversely affected by excreted Ivermectin and Ivermectin.
  • Only administer this product to horses.
  • Keep this and all drugs out of the reach of children.
  • After using, wash hands thoroughly.

How can I store Covetrus Equine Ivermectin 1.87% Paste?

Store in a dry and cool environment, 68° to 77°F (20° to 25°C).

Overview

This syringe contains sufficient paste to treat one 1250 lb horse at the recommended dose rate of 91 mcg ivermectin per lb (200 mcg/kg) body weight. Each weight marking on the syringe plunger delivers enough paste to treat 250 lb body weight. (1) While holding plunger, turn the knurled ring on the plunger to the right so the side nearest the barrel is at the prescribed weight marking. (2) Make sure that the horse’s mouth contains no feed. (3) Remove the cover from the tip of the syringe. (4) Insert the syringe tip into the horse’s mouth at the space between the teeth. (5) Depress the plunger as far as it will go, depositing paste on the back of the tongue. (6) Immediately raise the horse’s head for a few seconds after dosing.
