Questions & Answers

Product Description

LickGuard Topical Ointment is an ideal choice for situations where you need to prevent your pet from licking certain areas or themselves. Wounds and incisions from operations can benefit from the avoidance of licking, as licking can lead to delayed healing or infection. The bitter texture, smell, and taste deter your pet, and the gel is easy to administer.

Who is LickGuard Topical Ointment 0.75 oz for?

For use in cats and dogs.

Why use LickGuard Topical Ointment 0.75 oz?

LickGuard discourages chewing, biting, and licking.

How does LickGuard Topical Ointment 0.75 oz work?

How does LickGuard work?
  • Step 1: The sticky base of this product ensures a stable environment by holding essential oils in a suspension, which maintains the intensity of the oils. The adhesive base sticks to the tongue of the animal, which prolongs the intense taste.
  • Step 2: Terrible-tasting essential oils work together with citric acid to reach all parts of the tongue. The sweet area is on the tip of the tongue, sour and salty are on either side, and the bitter taste is near the back. These ingredients work to stimulate taste buds and nerve endings, which creates a shocking, terrible, and unique taste. This product generates a "hot" feeling on the tongue with peppermint oil, oregano oil, and cinnamon bar. The oils don't make the tongue hot physically or burn the tongue, but they stimulate heat-responding receptors and trick the brain into feeling this sensation.
  • Step 3: Scent is known to trigger memories. Spearmint oil and garlic both work toward olfactory activation, creating a distinct scent. Because taste and smell work in conjunction, animals associate this smell with a bad taste. Smell and taste are related so closely that the cat or dog will eat or lick something based more on smell than on taste. The portion of the dog's brain that receives messages from nose nerves is developed so greatly that it has the capacity to store information about scents like a computer would. This trains the animal to recall the scent of LickGuard, making them stay away.
