What are the side effects of Carprofen Injection 50 mg/ml, 20 ml?

Like other NSAIDs, Carprofen is not free from potential side effects. Pet owners should be aware of potential side effects and educate themselves on signs and symptoms associated with medication intolerance. These side effects may include:
  • Changes in behavior
  • Seizures
  • Incoordination
  • Lethargy
  • Yellowing of white of eyes, skin, or gums caused by jaundice
  • Pale gums caused by anemia
  • Increased urination
  • Increased water consumption
  • Tarry or dark stools
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Decreased appetite
NSAID-related reactions may occur without warning and, in rare cases, could result in death. Withdraw Carprofen therapy immediately and contact your veterinarian right away if intolerance is suspected. Most patients with Carprofen-related reactions have recovered when pet owners recognize the symptoms, discontinue use, and seek veterinary care. Routine follow-ups for all dogs is indicated while taking any NSAID.

Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration consistent with individual response. The recommended dosage for subcutaneous administration to dogs is 2 mg/lb (4.4 mg/kg) of body weight daily. The total daily dose may be administered as either 2 mg/lb of body weight once daily or divided and administered as 1 mg/lb (2.2 mg/kg) twice daily.
For control of postoperative pain, administer approximately 2 hours before the procedure

Each mL of Carprofen Sterile Injectable Solution contains 50.0 mg carprofen, 30.0 mg arginine, 88.5 mg glycocholic acid, 169.0 mg lecithin, 10.0 mg benzyl alcohol, 6.17 mg sodium hydroxide, with additional sodium hydroxide and hydrochloric acid as needed to adjust pH, and water for injection.
