Carprieve (Carprofen) Injection 50 mg/ml, generic for Rimadyl (Carprofen), is intended for the alleviation of pain/inflammation symptomatic of osteoarthritis, as well as the management of postoperative discomfort resulting from soft tissue and orthopedic surgical procedures. Sold in 20 ml and 50 ml vials.

What are the side effects of Carprieve (Carprofen) Injection 50 mg/ml?

Carprieve Injection, like other drugs of its class, is not free from adverse reactions. Owners should be advised of the potential for adverse reactions and be informed of the clinical signs associated with drug intolerance. Adverse reactions may include decreased appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, dark or tarry stools, increased water consumption, increased urination, pale gums due to anemia, yellowing of gums, skin or white of the eye due to jaundice, lethargy, incoordination, seizure, or behavioral changes. Serious adverse reactions associated with this drug class can occur without warning and in rare situations result in death (see Adverse Reactions). Owners should be advised to discontinue Carprieve Injection therapy and contact their veterinarian immediately if signs of intolerance are observed. The vast majority of patients with drug related adverse reactions have recovered when the signs are recognized, the drug is withdrawn and veterinary care, if appropriate, is initiated. Owners should be advised of the importance of periodic follow up for all dogs during administration of any NSAID.

Keep out of reach of children. Not for human use. Consult a physician in cases of accidental human exposure. For use in dogs only. Do not use in cats.

Immediately contact your closest emergency animal hospital.

How can I store Carprieve (Carprofen) Injection 50 mg/ml?

Refrigerate between 2° to 8°C (36° to 46°F). Once opened product may be stored at temperatures up to 25 °C (77 °F) for 28 days.

Overview

Carefully consider the potential benefits and risks of carprofen and other treatment options before deciding to use Carprieve Injection. Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration consistent with individual response. The recommended dosage for subcutaneous administration to dogs is 2 mg/lb (4.4 mg/kg) of body weight daily. The total daily dose may be administered as either 2 mg/lb of body weight once daily or divided and administered as 1 mg/lb (2.2 mg/kg) twice daily. For control of postoperative pain, administer approximately 2 hours before the procedure.

Main Ingredients

Each mL of Carprieve Injection contains 50.0 mg carprofen, 30.0 mg arginine, 88.5 mg glycocholic acid, 169.0 mg lecithin, 10.0 mg benzyl alcohol, 6.17 mg sodium hydroxide, with additional sodium hydroxide and hydrochloric acid as needed to adjust pH, and water for injection.
