Metacam 0.5 mg/ml Oral Suspension is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) oral suspension for use for the treatment of pain and inflammation in dogs.

What is Metacam 0.5 mg/ml Oral Suspension, 30 ml?

Metacam (meloxicam) is a nonsteroidal ant-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to treat inflammation and reduce pain associated with acute and chronic musculoskeletal disorders such as osteoarthritis and arthritis in dogs.

What are the side effects of Metacam 0.5 mg/ml Oral Suspension, 30 ml?

The most common side effect of NSAIDs is stomach upset, but stomach ulcers may develop, in which case you may see loss of appetite; vomiting; diarrhea; dark, tarry or, bloody stools; or constipation. Side effects involving the kidney include increased thirst and urination, or changes in the urine color or smell. Side effects involving the liver include jaundice (yellowing of the gums, skin, or eyes). Other side effects may include pale gums, lethargy, shedding, incoordination, seizures, or behavioral changes. If any of these side effects are observed, stop treatment and contact your veterinarian.

What special precautions are there?

Not for use in animals who are hypersensitive (allergic) to meloxicam (Metacam), carprofen (Rimadyl), aspirin, etodolac (EtoGesic), deracoxib (Deramaxx), firocoxib (Previcox), tepoxalin (Zubrin), or other NSAIDs. Use with extreme caution and continued monitoring in geriatric animals and those with dehydration, diabetes mellitus, or stomach, intestinal, liver, heart, and blood disorders

How to use the Metacam applicator :
1. Shake the Metacam bottle. Remove the cap and attach the dosing syringe to the top of the bottle.
2. Turn the bottle and syringe upside down.
3. Pull the plunger out until the black line is even with your dog's weight in kilos.
4. Turn the bottle the right way up. Twist to separate the dispensing syringe from the bottle. (For dogs under 10 Kgs, apply 2 drops per Kg directly from the bottle onto food.)
5. Push the plunger to empty the syringe onto your dog's food. Or right into his mouth immediately before or after feeding!
Shake well before use. The usual dose is 0.1mg per pound for the first day followed by 0.05mg per pound once a day thereafter. This medication can be either mixed with food or placed directly into the mouth.
