Doxepin HCl is a medication prescribed to dogs or cats to help treat depression, noise phobia, and anxiety related disorders, such as canine obsessive-compulsive disorders, especially acral lick dermatitis.

Doxepin has less potential for adverse cardiac effects than many other tricyclics, but instances of ventricular arrhythmias have been reported, particularly after overdoses. It may also cause extreme excitability, gastrointestinal distress, or lethargy. Most common side effects are drowsiness/sleepiness, dry mouth, and constipation; be sure your animal has access to water. Other side effects are possible. Contact your Vet if you notice any adverse reactions or strange behaviors after starting Doxepin.
Keep away from children and animals. *If your animal wore a flea or tick collar in the past 2 weeks, let your veterinarian know. Do not use a flea or tick collar on your animal while administering this drug without first talking to your veterinarian. Doxepin should be used with extreme caution in animals prone to having seizures.
