Ondansetron is a human drug with off label uses for Dogs and Cats if prescribed from a Veterinarian. It is used in dogs and cats to treat a variety of conditions with the most common being vomiting. What does Ondansetron Tablet do?
Ondansetron is a drug that selectively inhibits serotonin 5HT3 receptors. 5HT3 receptors are located on vagal nerve terminals, enteric neurons in the GI tract, and centrally in the brain in a region called the chemoreceptor trigger zone.
Ondansetron Tablet side effects
This medication is not frequently used in veterinary medicine, but it appears to be well tolerated. Side effects such as constipation, sedation, extrapyramidal clinical signs (head shaking), arrhythmias and hypotension are possible. If you notice anything unusual, contact your veterinarian.
