FRONTLINE® Shield for Dogs combats parasites using pyriproxyfen (an insect growth regulator), permethrin, and fipronil. Pyriproxyfen works by inhibiting the development of fleas in every stage of life (including pupae, larvae, and egg) to prevent re-infestation. Permethrin works to repel and kill acarines and insects. Fipronil works in the nervous system of fleas to incite hyperactivity and eventual parasite death.
The most common side effects that have been reported after the use of this product involve irritated skin. While this occurrence is rare, signs of irritation could include scratching, redness, and discomfort.   • Never use on a cat. Feline use can prove fatal.
  • Avoid clothing and eye contact. While transient, this product can cause significant injuries to the eyes. Never swallow.
  • Thoroughly cleanse hands using water and soap following use and prior to using the bathroom, using tobacco, chewing gum, drinking or eating.
  • Contaminated clothing should be removed and washed prior to re-wearing.
  • Only use externally on dogs. Never apply to an animal of any other species.
  • Never use on a puppy younger than 9 weeks old or under 5 pounds in body weight.
  • Like any other pesticide, sensitivities can vary from one individual to the next. Dogs could experience transient application site irritation. In case of sensitivity, give the dog a bath using mild shampoo or soap, then use plenty of water to rinse. If sensitivity continues, seek immediate veterinary attention.
  • If you notice any signs of a reaction following your dog's first dose, speak to your veterinarian prior to the next application.
  • Notify your veterinarian about any medications your pet is taking, as certain products can have a reaction with this and any other pesticide product.
  • If your dog has a known pesticide sensitivity, or if he or she is aged, debilitated, medicated, nursing, or pregnant, consult your veterinarian prior to use.

    Sold as a 3-month (3-dose) or 6-month (6-dose) supply. The dosage of this product is weight-based, with separate doses for extra small dogs (from 5 to 10 pounds), small dogs (11 to 20 pounds), medium dogs (21 to 40 pounds), large dogs (41 to 80 pounds), and extra large dogs (81 to 120 pounds).

    To apply this product:
    1. Open the package by cutting one blister on the dotted line with scissors. Pull the foil apart and take the applicator out of the package. Alternatively, fold the blister at the line on the corner, then use the pre-cut slit to tear the blister open and take the applicator out of the package.
    2. Cut the tip of the applicator open with scissors, keeping the applicator pointed away from your own face and that of any animal or person. Never allow the product to make contact with your dog's mouth or eyes.
    3. Part the dog's hair between his or her shoulder blades, exposing the skin at the application site. For small dogs, dispense the entire contents at this single site. For medium to large dogs, divide the dose between three separate sites along the back. For extra large dogs, the product should be dispensed in four sites. Never apply on top of the dog's coat.
    4. Re-apply monthly, preferably on the same day each month.
