Beef-flavored Trifexis (spinosad + milbemycin oxime) chews are prescribed to eliminate fleas and keep flea infestations from happening. They also protect against heartworm disease as well as treating and controlling infections of adult hookworm, whipworm, and roundworm in dogs.
Because Trifexis chewable tablets are beef-flavored, so your dog will think you are giving him a treat. The convenience of flea control medicine, heartworm prevention, and intestinal parasite control in one flavorful flea and tick pill lets pet parents rest easy knowing their furry companions are protected.
Your pet must be tested for heartworm before administering Trifexis tablets for dogs. This is an important test and helps protect your pet from heartworm and ensures they get the correct treatment.
- In one monthly tablet, Trifexis prevents flea infestations and protects your dog from parasites.
- Spinosad (primary ingredient) kills adult fleas, preventing flea infestation.
- Spinosad targets activation of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) in insects.

The most common side effect of Trifexis chewable flea control is vomiting. However, there are some other adverse reactions you should know about if you are considering giving Trifexis to your dog. If these side effects become severe or concerning, contact your veterinarian.
Additional side effects of Trifexis include:
- Itchy skin
- Redness of skin or ears
- Loss of appetite
- Lethargy
- Diarrhea
If your dog is taking other medications in addition to Trifexis, talk to your veterinarian, some medications can react badly with Trifexis.
If your pet is allergic to Trifexis, they may have symptoms like seizures, scratching, hives, vomiting, sudden diarrhea, shock, cold limbs, pale gums, or coma. If your dog has any of these symptoms, speak with your veterinarian or an emergency veterinarian right away.
Your veterinarian should know about any other medical issues your pet has, especially epilepsy. Some conditions may make it unsafe for your dog to take Trifexis. It may not be appropriate for pregnant dogs or very young puppies. Safe use in breeding males has not yet been evaluated.
As with any medication, there is a chance your dog may have an allergic reaction that leads to anaphylaxis. If you notice any signs of an allergic reaction, contact your veterinarian right away.
Use with caution in dogs with pre-existing epilepsy.
Trifexis has not been evaluated for safe use in breeding females.
