Equidone Description
Equidone Oral Gel is typically used for:
  • Promoting growth of follicles in transitional mares
  • Treating mares for inadequate ovulatory follicle sizes in the breeding season
  • Low milk flow levels

  • Fescue toxicosis
What is Equidone?
Equidone Oral Gel is generally used to treat the following conditions: fescue toxicosis, agalactic or low level of milk flow, for mares that are not developing ovulatory size follicles during the normal breeding season, and to promote follicular growth in transitional mares.

Equidone Gel promotes follicular growth when used in a transitional mare, and it also works to treat several other conditions.
What does Equidone do?
This gel uses domperidone to prevent fescue toxicosis of periparturient mares. Domperidone is a D2 dopamine receptor antagonist.

The most frequently-reported side effect of Equidone treatment is passive transfer failure and premature lactation (before foaling).

Overview
Orally administer 0.5 mg/lb (1.1 mg/kg) once daily starting 10 to 15 days prior to Expected Foaling Date (EFD). Treatment may be continued for up to 5 days after foaling if mares are not producing adequate milk after foaling.
