Bovi-Shield Gold FP 5 + VL5 uses
Bovi-Shield Gold FP 5 prevents abortion associated with infectious bovine rhinotracheitis, protecting cows and their calves for as long as a year after vaccinating.
What does Bovi-Shield Gold FP 5 + VL5 do?
Bovi-Shield Gold FP 5 uses modified live virus to vaccinate before breeding, preventing persistently-infected calves and abortion associated with:
- Bovine virus diarrhea (BVD) virus types 1 and 2
- Infectious bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR/bovine herpesvirus type 1) virus
- Fetal infection associated with bovine virus diarrhea types 1 and 2
- Respiratory disease associated with bovine virus diarrhea types 1 and 2, parainfluenza3 (PI3), bovine respiratory syncytial virus (BRSV), and infectious bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR)
- Testicular infection associated with bovine virus diarrhea type 2

Anaphylactic reactions could occur following use. Epinephrine should be administered prior to supportive therapies.

What to know before using Bovi-Shield Gold FP 5 + VL5
- Entire contents should be used upon opening.
- Never vaccinate within 21 days of slaughter.
- Unused contents should be inactivated prior to disposal.
- This vaccine contains a preservative of gentamicin.
- If human exposure occurs, seek medical attention.
- Never mix with any other product unless expressly specified on the product label.
- Use a sterilized needle and syringe to administer this vaccine, and never use chemicals to sterilize (traces of disinfectant can cause the vaccine to become inactivated).
- Unless a pregnant cow was vaccinated following any PregGuard Gold FP or Bovi-Shield Gold FP vaccine in the last 12 months, do not vaccinate. This can lead to abortion.
- Not for use in calves nursing pregnant cows unless the dam was vaccinated in the past 12 months (as described).
- Health risks associated with use in fetal cows have not been determined.
- This vaccine should only be administered to healthy animals.

Overview
General Directions: Vaccination of healthy cattle is recommended. Aseptically rehydrate the freeze-dried vaccine (Bovi-Shield GOLD FP 5) with the liquid bacterin provided (Vibrio/Leptoferm-5™), shake well, and administer 2 mL intramuscularly. In accordance with Beef Quality Assurance guidelines, this product should be administered in the muscular region of the neck.
Primary Vaccination: Administer a single 2-mL dose to all breeding cows and heifers approximately 1 month prior to breeding or being added to the herd, followed by single doses of Vibrio/Leptoferm-5 and Bovi-Shield BRSV 3-4 weeks later.
