Benazepril (Brand Lotensin) can be used in treating heart failure, high blood pressure, and some forms of kidney disease in dogs and cats. It is effective when used alone or in combination with thiazide diuretics. Available in 5 mg (regular and extra small size tablet) and 10 mg strength tablet. *Sold per Tablet.

-Dilates the veins and decreases fluid retention.
-Lowers high blood pressure
Benazepril works by preventing a chemical in your blood called angiotensin I from converting into a more potent form that increases salt and water retention in your body.

For dogs and cats, if any of the following serious side effects occur, stop giving benazepril and seek emergency veterinary medical attention; an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; swelling of the lips; tongue or face; hives). Side effects are rare but may include loss of appetite, vomiting, and diarrhea. Benazepril could cause low blood pressure or kidney dysfunction indicated by increased thirst and/or changes in urination. Talk to your veterinarian about any side effect that seems unusual or bothersome to the animal.
