K-BroVet is a prescription pet medication containing Potassium Bromide to help manage epileptic seizures in dogs. It is available in 60 liver flavored Chewable Tablets in 250 mg or 500 mg strengths or as a 250 mg/ml butterscotch vanilla flavored Oral Solution.

What is K-BroVet Potassium Bromide?

K-BROVET potassium bromide is used to treat seizure disorders in dogs. It can be used in addition to therapy with other agents or as the sole anticonvulsant.

How does K-BroVet Potassium Bromide work?

K-BROVET Chewable Tablets are liver flavored tablets containing 250 mg or 500 mg of potassium bromide and cyanocobalamin. K-BROVET Oral Solution is a butterscotch vanilla flavored solution containing 250 mg/mL of potassium bromide, cyanocobalamin and pyridoxine HCl.

How is K-BroVet Potassium Bromide sold?

Prescription required. 250 mg or 500 mg 60 Chewable Tablets or 250 mg/ml 300 ml Oral Solution.

What are the side effects of K-BroVet Potassium Bromide?

- Dog may experience drowsiness when taking K-BROVET™, but this will generally go away after approximately 3 weeks. - Increased hunger, thirst, urination, vomiting, constipation, anorexia, and uncoordinated movements may occur with K-BROVET. - During the load in dose increased nausea may be experienced. - There is no information on the relative frequency of pancreatitis in dogs associated with bromide therapy alone. However, pancreatitis has been reported to be more frequent in dogs on concurrent phenobarbital and bromide therapy than dogs on phenobarbital alone. - Personality changes have been occasionally reported in dogs on bromide, including attention seeking, irritability or aggression, and aimless pacing.

What special precautions are there?

K-BROVET should be used cautiously in older animals as they will be more susceptible to adverse effects. This medication is not indicated for use in cats.

What to do if overdose?

Contact your nearest animal hospital.

How can I store K-BroVet Potassium Bromide?

Store in a tightly sealed container at room temperature (59-86°F).

Pharmacists are standing by to offer Pet Parent counseling regarding prescription medication purchased from Allivet before and after dispensing. Pharmacists on duty are available Monday-Friday, 9:30AM - 5:30PM EST and will be on call Saturday 12:00PM - 4:00PM EST for consultation.

For a loading dose to achieve a serum level of approximately 1 mg/mL, give 120 mg/kg PO daily for 5 days and then reduce to 30 mg/kg PO once daily. To achieve a serum level of approximately 1.5 mg/mL, give 160 mg/kg PO for 5 days and then reduce to 40 mg/kg PO once daily thereafter.
