Product Overview
A prescription medication, Famotidine Oral Suspension USP is intended for use in cats and dogs. It is prescribed for the treatment of ulcers in the intestines and gastric or stomach ulcers. For dogs experiencing kidney failure, it may help with related symptoms like inflammation of the stomach or gastric reflux.
This is the generic form of the name brand Pepcid. It is available in 50 ml bottles in a 40 mg or 5 ml strength.
This medication must be mixed with water before administering to your pet.
Famotidine is used to help reduce the amount of stomach acid produced. It aids in the treatment of stomach ulcers that are present and helps prevent ulcer formation. Famotidine can also be used to treat gastritis, esophagitis, and gastric or esophageal reflux as well as prevent stomach or duodenal ulcers in animals with kidney failure.
Famotidine Oral Suspension USP should only be used for the treatment of cats and dogs.

Famotidine is a drug that heals and prevents ulcers. It is part of the class of histamine receptor 2 blockers. It works by preventing the secretion of gastric acid through the blockage of H-2 receptors. Gastric acid is secreted when H-2 receptors exist in the cells of the stimulated stomach cells. This ultimately leads to the healing of ulcers by preventing the secretion of gastric acid.

My dog is having a problem with her stomach

I was really excited to get this as it is hard to get my cat to swallow pills and half a Pepcid is still a bit big for my little kitty. When I got the bottle it came with in powder form with no dropper and no instructions. I assumed (stupid) that you just fill the bottle so that is what I did and when I gave it to my cat it was basically cherry flavored water. It was beyond diluted. So I ruined a $54 bottle of medicine. Do not be stupid like me. I am sure this works great if you use it right. Figure out how much water to add to get the correct amount of fluid. Also, not sure why it is cherry flavored, my cat does not really like cherry. I gave it one star because this is great if you get it right and can give it to cats like mine who do not take pills well. Also, it did make her throw up a hairball she has had for two weeks.
