is indicated for controlling pain and
inflammation associated with osteoarthritis (OA). As the generic equivalent of
Equioxx, Firocoxib belongs to the first and only cyclooxygenase-inhibiting
(COXIB) class of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) specifically
designed for horses.
Firocoxib tablets:
- Provide up to 24 hours of relief
- Are easy to administer
- Require only once-daily dosing
- Can be used for up to 14 days
As the generic
equivalent of Equioxx, Firocoxib belongs to the first and only
cyclooxygenase-inhibiting (COXIB) class of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory
drugs (NSAIDs) specifically designed for horses. Trust Firocoxib to effectively

Horses
Firocoxib is an easy-to-administer tablet that requires just once-daily dosing. It provides pain and inflammation relief in horses diagnosed with osteoarthritis.
As with any prescription medication, prior to use, a veterinarian should perform a physical examination and review the horse’s medical history. A veterinarian should advise horse owners to observe for signs of potential drug toxicity. As a class, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs may be associated with gastrointestinal, hepatic and renal toxicity.

Firocoxib hasn’t been tested in breeding, pregnant, or lactating mares or in horses aged less than one year. A horse who has demonstrated hypersensitivity to Firocoxib should not be given this medication.

My mare is 25 years old and has been on this type of pain and inflammation product for about ten years. She is still doing well with corrective hoof care and this product. I feel that this product falls short in reducing inflammation. It seems you have to give a higher dose than the recommended dose to achieve the same results as the old standard. The idea that it's easier on a horse's stomach is a good thing of course, but if the product doesn't reduce inflammation and pain, what's the point? Maybe this would be useful for a minor issue, but one of my horses had a severe case of purpura hemorrhagica, and I had to go to old-school bute to help give her relief..
