Prevail (Flunixin Meglumine Injection) formerly Flunixin Meglumine is useful in alleviating pain and inflammation caused by musculoskeletal disorders in horses. It is also helpful in alleviating visceral pain caused by colic.
Prevail (Flunixin Meglumine Injection) is recommended for the alleviation of inflammation and pain associated with musculoskeletal disorders in the horse.
For use in horses and cattle.
Prevail (Flunixin Meglumine Injection) may be injected intramuscularly or intravenously for as many as 5 days to alleviate visceral pain caused by colic.
Prevail (Flunixin Meglumine Injection) is an analgesic, nonsteroidal, non-narcotic, and powerful agent that boasts antipyretic and anti-inflammatory benefits. It is far more powerful than codeine, meperidine, and pentazocine as an analgesic.
In case of allergic reaction, seek emergency veterinary attention. These signs are:
- Coma
- Cold limbs
- Pale gums
- Seizures
- Shock
- Sudden diarrhea onset
- Scratching
- Hives
- Swelling of the face
- Fever
- Swelling
- Pain
- Bleeding
- Bruising
- Changes in the smell or color of urine, increased urination, or increased thirst (signs of kidney effects)
- Constipation; bloody, tarry, or dark stools; diarrhea; or appetite loss, which can be signs of a stomach ulcer

The recommended dose for musculoskeletal disorders is 0.5 mg per pound (1 mL/100 lbs) of body weight once daily. The recommended dose for the alleviation of pain associated with equine colic is 0.5 mg per pound of body weight. Intravenous administration is recommended for prompt relief.
