Clindamycin is a veterinarian prescribed medication for cats and dogs. It’s an antibiotic for treating infections like dental, soft tissue, and bone due to bacteria strains that are susceptible. Clindamycin is an lincosamide antibiotic; it works through the removal of anaerobic bacterial infections through the disruption of protein synthesis and binding to the RNA of bacteria necessary for its growth and survival.

Clindamycin works by:

- Treating osteomyelitis or bone infection in dogs

- Aiding in the healing of abcesses, infections, and wounds
Clindamycin works through the suppression of bacterial reproduction and growth; it should be administered by mouth.

Clindamycin is available as a 20 ml oral suspension 25 mg/ml. Clindamycin is also available in 75 mg and 150 mg capsules.

Generic medications may present flavors disliked by cats; they may also drool slightly after taking this medication.
Recommended Dosage and Administration: Always use as directed by veterinarian. Medication should never be administered without first consulting your veterinarian. The usual dose is 5 mg per pound (11 mg/kg) every 12 hours or 10 mg per pound (22 mg/kg) every 24 hours orally for dogs. For cats the dose ranges from 2.5 mg per pound (5.5 mg/kg) every 12 hours orally to 10 mg per pound (22 mg/kg) every 24 hours orally. The dose and frequency depend on the type of infection treated.
The duration of administration depends on the condition being treated, response to the medication and the development of any adverse effects. Be certain to complete the prescription unless specifically directed by your veterinarian. Even if your pet feels better, the entire treatment plan should be completed to prevent relapse or prevent the development of resistance.
