Terbinafine is a prescription medication used to treat fungal infections, especially those of the skin, hair, and nails in dogs and cats.

Features of Terbinafine:
- Well tolerated
- Reduces fungal infections of the nails, hair, and skin
Terbinafine is a type of allylamine antifungal that prevents the biosynthesis of ergosterol, which is a crucial part of the fungal cell membrane, by inhibiting the squalene epoxidase enzyme. This causes death of the fungal cell by interfering with the buildup of high concentrations of squalene, but not caused by deficiency of ergosterol.
Terbinafine is generally well-tolerated, but a few reactions are possible:
- Vomiting (but administering with food may resolve this issue)
- Lack of appetite
- Diarrhea
