Bravecto vs Sentinel
Struggling to find the right products to control both fleas, ticks, and heartworm? You're not alone. Thousands of dog owners over the country are asking the same questions. Bravecto Chewable Tablets are a popular choice for flea treatment whereas Sentinel is a popular choice for heartworm prevention that does offer some protection against fleas. The table and additional information below will help you make an informed decision on which product to buy and or buy together.
What are the differences between Bravecto and Sentinel
For starters, each is designed to prevent different pests. Bravecto is designed to stop fleas and ticks whereas Sentinel protects against heartworm, roundworms, whipworms, and hookworms. Sentinel also does provide protection against fleas by stopping the development of flea larvae and eggs. However, it will not kill existing fleas or ticks.
Bravecto uses Fluralaner and begins to kill fleas in as little as 2 hours. Bravecto kills many types of ticks including the lone star tick for 8 weeks. Sentinel uses Milbemycin Oxime and Lufeuron to eradicate worm infestations and control fleas. With Sentinel and Bravecto or any other combination of two separate FDA regulated medications, we cannot recommend using them together. They have not been tested and proven safe and effective together to the FDA.
Both products are safe for dogs as well as safe for use in breeding, pregnant, or lactating dogs. You can start puppies on Sentinel at 4 weeks old but will have to wait to start Bravecto until they are at least 6 months old.
Both Sentinel and Bravecto require a prescription from your vet before they can be purchased. Consult with your veterinarian if you have any concerns about using both products together with your dog.
Final Thoughts on Bravecto vs Sentinel
Vets often prescribe both products to pet patients to provide protection against internal parasite diseases and flea infestations. As always, consult with your vet first.
