If you’re reading this, chances are a Frenchie has already stolen your heart. From the snorts and snores to the side-eye and zoomies, life with a Frenchie is never boring. Take a look at our fun look at Life with Frenchies, and then head over to our Facebook page and share a pic of your favorite French bulldog.

Why Frenchies Steal Hearts (and Couches)

French Bulldogs are small in size but huge in personality. They’re affectionate, funny, expressive, and deeply attached to their humans. Most Frenchies want just three things in life:

  1. To be near you
  2. To be touching you
  3. To be admired at all times

And honestly? Fair.

Frenchies are known for being:

  • Loving and loyal
  • Silly and playful
  • Excellent snugglers
  • Surprisingly good comedians

They thrive on companionship and are happiest when they’re part of everything you do.

Those Famous Bat Ears & Squishy Faces

Let’s talk about the features that made you fall in love at first sight.

French Bulldogs have:

  • Signature bat ears that hear snacks being opened from three rooms away
  • Big, expressive eyes that can guilt you into extra treats
  • A short, smooth coat that’s easy to maintain
  • A sturdy, compact body built for couch life

They usually weigh 16–28 pounds and are the perfect lap-sized even when they get older.

The Frenchie Personality: Clown + Shadow

Frenchies are often described as half clown, half shadow.

They’ll:

  • Make you laugh with random zoomies
  • Follow you from room to room
  • Sit like tiny humans
  • Demand attention…politely, then loudly

Training a French Bulldog (Yes, You Can!)

French Bulldogs are smart; they just like to pretend they’re not.

Training works best when you use:

  • Positive reinforcement
  • Treats (very important)
  • Short, fun sessions
  • Patience and humor

Frenchies can be a little stubborn, but they’re eager to please once they realize what’s in it for them. Early socialization helps them grow into confident, well-mannered adults.

Feeding Your Frenchie Right

Frenchies love food a lot, so portion control matters.

Helpful tips:

  • Feed high-quality dog food appropriate for their age and size, such as a senior dog food for older pets or a small-breed dog food.
  • Avoid overfeeding (extra weight = extra strain on breathing and joints)
  • Stick to regular mealtimes
  • Watch for food sensitivities, which are common in the breed
  • Talk to you vet about whether a veterinary diet is right for them.

Most adult Frenchies do well with two meals per day, plus treats, obviously.

Health & Care: What Every Frenchie Owner Should Know

French Bulldogs are a brachycephalic breed, meaning they have short noses and flat faces. This is part of their charm, and it’s also why they need a little extra care.

Important things to keep in mind:

  • They can overheat easily, especially in hot or humid weather
  • They’re not built for long runs or intense exercise
  • Swimming is risky without a life vest

Regular vet visits, responsible breeding, and a watchful eye go a long way in keeping your Frenchie healthy and happy.

Is your Frenchie hard to pill? We offer compounded medications that make it easier. Talk to your vet about this option.

Grooming: Easy but Important

Good news: Frenchies are low-maintenance groomers.

Your routine should include:

  • Weekly brushing
  • Cleaning facial folds to prevent irritation
  • Checking ears for infections
  • Nail trims and regular teeth brushing (check out our pet dental care essentials.)

Bonus: less fur, less mess, more cuddle time.

The Perfect Frenchie Home

French Bulldogs are indoor dogs through and through. They do best in homes where they get lots of attention and aren’t left alone for long stretches. That’s why they are often a great dog for homes of any size whether in the city or the country. They just want to be where their people are!

As long as there’s love, a comfy spot to nap, and climate control, your Frenchie is happy.
