DuramuneCVK is a vaccine commonly used for puppies between the ages of 9-12 weeks of age. This vaccine protects against the Canine Coronavirus which infects small puppies and is the leading viral cause of diarrhea in puppies worldwide. Canine Coronavirus is often confused with Canine Parvovirus which is fatal in puppies. Their symptoms are clinically indistinguishable and further testing would need to be done to decipher between the two infections.
The Coronavirus invades the rapidly growing cells of the intestinal lining causing nausea, lack of appetite, vomiting and diarrhea. Coronavirus is released through the infected puppy’s feces for months after initial ingestion. It takes about 1-2 days after initial ingestion for puppies to show symptoms of the infection.
Coronavirus is spread from puppy to puppy through infected feces. The most common sign of the infection is watery diarrhea which commonly lasts 2-4 days. Some puppies tend to vomit as well. Most puppies shed the virus in their stool within 2-9 days. The most effective form of prevention is through vaccination.

It is recommended to start vaccinating puppies as early as 6 weeks of age and then re-vaccinated every 2-3 weeks until they are at least 12 weeks of age. It is recommended that you inject 1mL subcutaneously or intramuscularly using an aseptic technique.
