Etiquette for Shopping with Your Pet
It’s great that so many stores allow pets, and following some basic etiquette will help ensure the practice continues.
- Be sure your pet is leashed or in a stroller. Even if your dog is very well behaved, he should never be allowed to run loose in a store.
- You might think your pet’s excited jumping is adorable, but everyone won’t. Maintain control of your dogs, so those who don’t like pets won’t have cause to complain.
- Keep baggies with you to pick up after your dog.
- If your dog is anxious or in any way aggressive, he’s not a good candidate for a shopping partner.
Note that stores that allow pets may have areas where pets are prohibited. For example, a department store with a restaurant may restrict dogs from the dining area.
